A Few Points To Consider Before Your First Laser Hair Appointment

1. You need to shave

People who are used to waxing might find it weird, but if you plan to opt for laser hair removal, you first need to shave the area. You should typically shave the area eight hours before the procedure. However, there are no problems if you shave the day before. You should time your shaving as close to the appointment as possible. However, you should provide your skin enough time after shaving so that it is not too sensitive.

2. Cease other treatments during and before laser hair removal

Typically, you should not pluck, wax, bleach your hair, or use depilatory creams three to six weeks before the first treatment as well as during the rest of the treatment period. The laser procedure will not work on light colored hairs or if there are no hairs present (because you have waxed them).

3. Stay out of the sun

There is no point undergoing laser hair removal on sunburned skin. Ideally, you should not have any tan on your skin. This includes making your skin darker with suntan creams. Apply sunblock to exposed areas and keep the area to be treated away from sunlight a minimum of four weeks before the appointment. You should also be wary of exposing your skin to the sun after the laser treatment process.

4. It might not be pain-free

Although many salons advertise that their procedures are pain-free, different people react differently to laser hair removal. You might experience anything from intense pain to slight discomfort. The latter is often referred to as elastic band snapping of the skin. People with coarse hair and dark skin tone experience more pain.

5. Consider taking pain precautions

Take an oral anti-inflammatory pill such as Ibuprofen 30 minutes before the appointment if you have sensitive skin and are worried about the pain. You also have the option of applying anesthetic cream before your appointment. Consult your pharmacist about the best options in case you plan to apply a numbing cream. Do not forget to read the directions on the tube. Apply the cream so that its effect starts during your appointment.

6. Book your appointment around your period

The process of laser hair removal is more painful if you undergo the same around the time you are menstruating. Try your best to schedule your appointment around your period. However, you should consider pain management options seriously, if you cannot avoid going at that time of the month.

7. You must stick to your schedule

You have to go for repeat treatments every four to eight weeks, depending on the area being treated. It is vital that you do not extend your appointment as the schedule is based on the hair growth cycle. Contact your therapist for an alternate schedule if you somehow have to miss an appointment. However, try your best to ensure that you stick to the original schedule, as this plays a significant role in removing the hair successfully.

8. You will require more than one session

Placecol informed us that the majority of individuals require six to eight sessions to achieve the desired results. However, certain lucky individuals are better off as they do not need more than four sessions to complete the laser hair removal process. Here is some good news for you. You will observe hair reduction from the very first session.

9. It is extremely quick

The hair removal sessions are speedy. However, the time required for the treatment is dependant on your skin type and the size of the area from which you want the hair to be removed. The therapist will need to use the laser for only 40 seconds if you have fair skin and want to undergo the laser hair removal procedure to eliminate hair from your underarms. The best part is that you can return to work immediately after the process.

10. It does not work for everyone

Here is some good news as well as some bad news. The new state-of-the-art lasers used by hair salons are safe to use on all skin colors and skin types. Therefore, you have the option of undergoing the laser hair removal procedure if you have dark skin. However, this procedure will not work as well on red, grey, or blonde hair.

11. You will observe results soon, but your hair will not disappear

How does the laser hair removal process work? This method damages the hair follicle but does not do anything to the hair in that follicle. You will leave with the same amount of hair that you came in with after your initial appointment. However, the targeted hair present in the active growth cycle will stop growing and fall out.

12. It is worthwhile

A quick search on the internet will show you that individuals have had hair removed up to 95% and the remaining 5% are usually excellent.

Laser hair treatment is not always permanent, mainly if your body produces more hair follicles that have not been subjected to the laser. Maintenance treatment every few years should solve this issue. Say goodbye to hair plucking, shaving, and waxing.

Microblading: The New Celebrity Trend You May Want To Consider

You have probably noticed the term “microblading,” if you are up to date on celebrity and beauty trends. However, what exactly is this eyebrow trend, and do you require it? We shall provide you with all the details.

What Is Microblading?

Microblading is a type of semi-permanent tattoo that provides you with eyebrows you have always dreamed about. In this procedure, the eyebrow artist will deposit pigment into your skin manually with the help of a “pen” tool, containing wonderful needles, known as microneedles. The term “microblade” is derived from these microneedles. This tool creates extremely thin and hair like strokes that look like real hair and blend naturally.

How To Get This Procedure Done

Most studios offer consultation, and they deduct the consultation charges from the microblading procedure if you get it done by them. The eyebrow artist will talk with you to understand what you want to achieve and will map out your brows to determine what shape and size gel best with your face. Before using the pen, they will stencil your new brows, so that you can understand how your eyebrows will look like post procedure.

The time for the initial procedure is between 1.5 to 2 hours. If necessary, the artist will conduct a touch up five to six weeks later, to ensure that your brows look precisely as you want them to be.

Does It Hurt?

To make you feel comfortable and to ensure that you do not feel any pain, the artist usually applies a topical numbing agent. Remember to ask the specialist about this as you might have to visit their studio 15 to 20 minutes before the appointment to get the numbing cream applied. Ensure that you ask about the anesthetic cream if the technician does not mention it.

Is There Any Downtime Following The Procedure?

As most people go about their routine after they step out of the salon, you too should not experience any severe discomfort.

The treated area might be slightly itchy and feel sunburned, but the discomfort level in minimal. Do not panic if your brows become slightly darker than they will be following 2 to 3 weeks after the initial appointment.

It takes a little over a month for the healing process. You should avoid artificial or natural tanning, using the sauna, excessive sweating, laser, or chemical treatments, and swim for 14 days following the microblading procedure. Also, avoid areas containing lots of dust. Do not touch the eyebrows area. You should not peel, pick, or scratch any scabs that form. Your eyebrow artist should provide you with a list of things you should avoid.

For long-term care, most eyebrow specialists will recommend you to apply SPF30 lotion to protect the sensitive skin around your new eyebrows and your face.

How Long Does Eyebrow Microblading Last?

The eyebrow tattoo is semi-permanent as the artist uses pigment instead of ink. However, this procedure lasts for 1.5 to 2 years before they require a touch-up. Results may vary depending on your skin type.

How Much Does Microblading Cost?

Expect to pay more than $500 for this process. It is quite common for salons to ask you to deposit your appointment.

Celebrities Who Are Fans Of Microblading

Bella Thorne had this procedure done last summer and shared details on her Snapchat. Former Bachelorette star, Ali Fedotowski, displayed her new eyebrows on Instagram.

An Extensive Eyelash Extension Q&A

What are the most common types of eye extensions?

There are three of them, mink, silk, and synthetic, available in sizes from 6mm to 17mm. The lashes, once selected, are applied once at a time using semi-permanent and specially formulated glue that does not damage the natural lashes or irritates the eye.

How long does it take to apply for lash extensions?

Applying a full set requires two hours, and can be maintained around the year with touchups recommended every 3 to 4 weeks. Budget individuals can opt for a half set of lashes that provides the same dramatic effect, and are applied outwards from the eye for a unique look or applied as filler to thicken natural lashes.

Everyone has different lashes. Lash experts can only go to a specific length depending on the condition of your natural lashes. You will not be able to get a long-lasting Kim Kardashian look if your natural lashes are on the thinner and shorter side. If you are not confident or you are applying eyelash extensions for the first time, start off with a half set, as you can always add more lashes later.

What happens if glue gets in your eyes?

As your eyes are shut during the procedure, the glue will not get into your eye. However, for the safety of your eyes and precautionary measures ensure that the glue is safe for your eyes and does not contain harmful substances like formaldehyde. Shipping glues worldwide lead to the buildup of formaldehyde by the time they reach the salon.

It is essential to understand the difference between infection and reaction. An experienced and licensed lash specialist does not allow an infection to occur, but they cannot prevent you from suffering from allergic reactions caused by the glue. This does not imply that the glue is harmful.

Can you become blind?

No, all lash specialists are properly trained to apply the adhesive harmlessly. Also, your eyes are closed during the procedure. You will not become blind irrespective of the severity of the allergic reaction. At most, you have to visit the ophthalmologist, who will prescribe suitable eye drops to cure the allergic reaction.

What happens when you cry?

Speak to the lash professional of the eyelash clinic if you experience discomfort or burning sensation during the procedure, causing tears to flow from your eyes. If necessary, the professional will change the glue. Pasting eye extensions should be a painless experience.

What are the pros and cons of wearing mink lashes like Beyonce?

People want different types of looks, some natural love looks and the others desire dramatic looks. Mink lash extensions are lighter and feathery looking; therefore, they put less pressure on your lashes. However, these lashes are quite expensive.

How often do you need to get lash extensions redone?

Las extensions typically last for six to eight weeks, which is the natural full growth cycle of natural lashes. However, as natural eyelash growth is variable, opt for maintenance every three to four weeks for a full look.

Do lash extensions fall out after a specific period?

As each lash extension is attached to a single eyelash, they will fall with the natural growth cycle of each lash. We recommend touch-ups every three to four weeks.

An inexperienced professional often applies one synthetic lash to three of four natural lashes, resulting in clumps or the eyelashes to break or fall out. Never attempt to pick or pull your lashes as this may cause them to fall out.

Can you shower or swim? Should you avoid specific products?

Prevent water from touching your lashes for 12 to 24 hours after applications or touch-ups, as they weaken the adhesive, causing the lashes to fall out. After effect care depends on the glue type used. Do not use oil-based makeup removers or other products around the eye with glue for sensitive eyes. Never apply mascara irrespective of the type of glue used, as mascara can pull off the lashes while trying to remove it.

Is it okay to wear mascara?

If you plan to wear mascara in addition to the extensions, apply it with a light hand on the extension tips. This is sufficient to give a glamour look to your eyes along with the extensions. Avoid clumping by not applying mascara at the base of the extensions.

Will your natural eyelashes get damaged or harmed?

The most significant myth is that lash extensions ruin your natural lashes. They are completely safe and do not ruin the condition of your natural lashes if applied correctly and adequately. Ensure that you do not tug or pull the extensions or rub your eyes as this can cause damage to your natural lashes and cause extension lash loss too. Extension lashes will not fall out if appropriately applied; one to each natural lash.

What questions to ask when hunting for a reputable salon or professional?

Keeping in mind the sensitive nature of the lashes and its surrounding areas, find an individual who is certified for applying lashes. Remember, specialists at eyelash clinic use professional equipment and have received thorough training to apply the lashes without causing damage to your eyes and your natural lashes.

Check how long the specialist has been in the profession and his percentage of success. Check their portfolio for photographs of persons before they had lashes added and after they have had eyelash extensions added. Ensure that the professional has a valid license to do the job.

How To Spot A Qualified Microblading Artist

Microblading is one of the modern ways of putting makeup permanently on the skin. The microblade artist carries out the process manually. Micro-pigmentation is employed to make hair strokes, and this has the effect of making eyebrows full and good looking. Microblading is somehow similar to tattooing. The client is given the option of choosing the pigmentation they prefer.

What is the role played by a microblade artist?

The artists use a collection of thin needles which they place on the sides to penetrate the skin. The needles eliminate the use of standard blades. Once the needles are in the perfect positions, the beauty consultants scratch the skin to locate the inks in the desired area. The process is simple, and the result is something to admire.

As a client, it is important to direct your artists depending on how thick you want them to bury the color into your body. Resultantly, you will get fantastic eyebrows at the end of it all. Here are ways to find out if your microblade artist has the skill and the knowledge it takes to do a perfect job.

Do they have any professional training in microblading

There are fundamental areas that every microblade artist needs to understand for them to perform the procedure correctly. Among them are physiology, color theory, skin anatomy and much more. Identifying themselves with such courses in top notch training institutions makes them qualified for a recommendable microblading procedure.

Where did they undergo training?

The name of the training institution is also an indicator of their level of qualification. Those from accredited colleges undergo manual practical under the supervision of a standard trainer. Getting such proof from artists is proof that they have unique qualifications for the job.

Possession of a license

Permanent makeup which penetrates the skin is under the Ministry of Health and not that of Cosmetology. Therefore, your makeup artist should present you with a valid and legal license. While asking this, you should also find out if the individual has a license for them to operate as tattoo artists.

Accredited individuals will embrace sanitary standards for them to perform safe procedures. Permanent pigmentation of the skin needs keen and careful professionals who will try to avoid side effects. The operations of the artist should meet your expectations such as long-lasting eyebrows, compatibility of the ink with your skin and minimal complications if any after the procedure.

Get clarification from the artist on previous jobs done and if possible get to learn feedback from clients.

A good artist will always show off their work by posting photos on websites or social media. Analysing these photos will help you in gauging their level of expertise. For instance, sometimes the penetration could target the wrong layers of the skin hence presenting undesirable results.

In that case, the microblade artist should advise you on what to expect before you get the pigmentation on your eyebrows. They should also discuss the durations for healing depending on the different types of skin. After seeing the photos, you should also ask if the permanent makeup services will demand maintenance services after the initial procedure. From that, you will know whether they form part of the after-sales services or you will need to make additional payments.

Tools to use for microblading

The overall cost of the microblading procedure

Microblading does not penetrate the skin to its depths since the experts carry out the processes manually. For that reason, the eyebrows may last for a year before you go for touches. But for detailed clarifications, make sure you inquire from your microblade artist. The artist should be able to accommodate all your questions lest you seek the service elsewhere.

Does the artist poses insurance for the clients

Most of the time, insurance companies offer insurance to people seeking microblading services. They, however, require clients to attain a specific level of qualification for them to issue them with covers. If your artist has a valid insurance cover, then you are safe under their care. Additionally, that is an indication that they have merits to work as tattoo artists.

A reliable microblade artist will always give you his or her history with many clients who enjoyed the satisfaction of their services. Another way of getting information is through crowdsourcing. So, ensure you check the feedback from their clients. Do not shy away due to a few negative reviews here and there. Instead, focus on the number of positive comments from clients who express their gratitude to the artists. It is always important not to ignore the negative comments as they will help you in identifying the weaknesses of the artists.

Don’t let this happen to you. Seek a qualified microblading artist such as the ones we provide here at The Naked Truth Skincare Studio and make sure they are experienced and licensed:

7 Things We Want You To Know About Microblading

The current style for eyebrows is a full and natural look. Gone are the days of thin and heavily groomed brows. Examples of the new brow look can be found in the pages of any magazine and even on the silver screen. A myriad of products exists to help you bolster your natural brows. There are powders, pencils, and even waxes that strive to help you achieve that voluminous, yet controlled, look.

The look, as fabulous as it is, takes a time investment to achieve. All the products, that plump this facial feature, are tedious to apply. Even if the look is highly desired, few have the time to achieve this style.

Thankfully, one of the newer grooming methods on the market is an entirely natural method. It is an inexpensive treatment that lasts long enough to be considered semi-permanent. The technique is microblading. Terms like cosmetic tattoos, eyebrow embroidery, and semi-permanent makeup are used interchangeably with microblading.

It is essential to understand the procedure before having it done fully. Here are eight things to know about the technique.

1. It is a Two-Step Procedure

There are two parts of this process. For the treatment to be effective, both steps must be done. The first step is to meet your specialist for a consultation. During this meeting, you will discuss the desired look. This is when you will determine the characteristics of your brow such as the color and shape of the brow.

Immediately after your consultation, the first session of microblading will take place. The second step, or session, occurs after the brow has completely healed. It is important that the brow heals completely to determine if all areas have taken the same. The second session will address any areas that need to be redone, or defined, after the initial session. Slight adjustments to color and shape can be made at this time. Both steps are required to ensure full and natural coverage that will endure time.

2. This is Not A Permanent Procedure

Unlike one of the monikers implies, microblading is not a permanent procedure. The exact duration fluctuates, but it is typical for the procedure to last between one and three years. Adhering to the aftercare steps can extend the life of your new eyebrows.

3. Nearly Anyone Can Get Microblading

It is much safer than tattooing. However, there are some people that should avoid it. If you have a blood transmitted disease or a compromised immune system, you should consult a physician before receiving the procedure. Pregnant or nursing women should also avoid getting the procedure.

4. Microblading is Not Tattooing

Unlike tattooing, microblading injects pigment in the basal membrane layer. The application at this layer gives brows that full look. It utilizes a hand tool instead of a motorized instrument. The last difference is that tattoo uses ink while microblading utilizes a pigment. The pigment does not stay in the skin in the way that ink stays. Pigments will slough off with your naturally exfoliated skin layer. The pigment will gradually fade over time making the transition imperceptible.

5. Procedure Takes Up to 3 Hours

So, how long does microblading take to get done? Creating a natural and full look is a long and tedious process. There is no template, and each procedure is customized to the client. It takes time to convincingly create a full brow in a shape that is coherent with the shape of your face.

6. Little to No Pain

This is not a tattoo. You do not get street credit for “sitting well.” Technicians will gladly apply an anesthetic gel that will desensitize your skin. You might experience a minimal level of discomfort at worst. The most painful part is committing to a brow design.

7. Minimal Maintenance

How much you want to maintain your brows is up to you. Most women get the procedure to have carefree eyebrows. There is no need to get up and pencil, powder, and fill your brows any longer. If you do desire an extra glamorous look on occasion, you can still bolster those brows with the normal products. You can get a microblading touch up a couple of times of year to keep your look as fresh as the day it was done.

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Microblading

It seems you are interested in microblading but worried that this procedure might cause pain. You need not worry, as the process is not as painful as you might be thinking. This method includes putting pigment into the skin with a microblade so that the color stays for several years. However, by taking certain precautions once can reduce the discomfort this procedure causes.

We shall talk about the following in this article:

  1. Why microblading does not necessarily hurt
  2. What you should expect during microblading
  3. How to make the procedure as comfortable as possible

Details about Microblading

This process, which involves making small cuts in the skin near the eyebrows, requires using a small & precise blade to apply pigment on your skin to make your eyebrows look perfect. The use of a blade during the processes scares most people, but you need not panic about it.

Microblade progress oily skin

Microblading is more painful than waxing or plucking out eyebrows, but less painful than getting a tattoo. Can you not bear 1-2 two hours of slight discomfort for 1-2 years of hassle less makeup ready eyebrows every morning? You are a prime candidate for microblading if you have replied in the positive to this question. However, if you are still worried, you should understand that the professional undertaking the task, applies anesthetic to the area before the microblading session that decreases the pain on your skin during the process.

Anesthetic agent

The cream or gel applied by the professional is similar to what dentists inject on your gums before extracting a tooth. The sole difference being that the cream gets absorbed by your skin, and no injection is required. Did I forget to mention that dermatologists too use gel on the patient’s skin before laser resurfacing? The gel or cream is a powerful anesthetic and prevents painful sensations during the application of pigment on your skin.

Using the pigment

The specialist applies the pigment approximately 1mm into the dermis, and 1mm below the epidermis; the outer layer of your skin. Specialists prefer to put pigment on the dermis as putting it on the epidermis would be futile, as this part of the skin sheds off over time. Putting it on the dermis ensures that the color does not fade away quickly. Putting the pigment more than 1mm beneath the skin’s surface makes it last longer. However, the process is proportionately painful too. The image above depicts that pigment is placed more in-depth into the dermis during tattooing. Hope you have understood the basics.

There is a slight difference between tattooing and microblading. In the latter process, the pigment is applied at a depth that makes it semi-permanent, but not so thick, that it stays permanently. This also decreases the pain caused during the process.

What you should expect during the procedure

It takes approximately two hours to complete the initial process, and a significant part of it is spent to ensure that the outlines of your brows are perfect. In the next step, I numb the area by applying local anesthetic After waiting for 15-20 minutes for the anesthetic to take effect, I begin placing the pigment into the area where the dermal meets the epidermal. You might experience a pulling and stinging sensation at this stage of the procedure. The degree of pain depends on the sensitivity of your skin, your nervous level, and your ability to withstand pain. This process lasts 30-60 minutes, and most clients end up telling the professional that the procedure was not as painful, as they had expected.

Most clients state that the pain is the same as that experienced during waxing or plucking their eyebrows, or a bit more. However, the result is fantastic, and all of my clients agree that the slight amount of pain is worth the outcome.

Tips to decrease pain during the process

Here are some tips that will help reduce the discomfort or pain during the procedure. If you get the procedure done by me, you can choose one or all of them.

1) Listen relaxing music is very useful as it relaxes your mind and keeps it occupied, providing you with an ambient environment that allows your body to relax.

Learn more about the procedure and come prepared for it as this will make you tackle the discomfort, much of which comes from the “unknown.”

2) Ensure that you are comfortable. You should be looking for soft padding, ambient noise, and more cooling temperature as that offers a spa-like environment over here. All of these things calm down the mind and soothe the pain receptors.

3) Apply lidocaine numbing cream in generous quantities. If necessary, apply two coatings of the same, as certain individuals require more anesthetic creams than others. Remember, some individuals are resistant to an anesthetic. Inform me if you are anesthetic resistant.

4) If you have a history of anxiety, take anti-anxiety pills before the procedure. However, you need not take these tablets if you do not suffer from anxiety disorders.

Do you need this procedure?

After going through this article, you might have concluded whether you need eyebrow microblading or not. Done correctly, eyebrow microblading is not painful. Application of numbing creams and the environment in which the procedure is carried outplay a considerable role in reducing your discomfort levels.
